Quick guide to interviews for SEO vacancies

If you’re lining up SEO vacancies and wondering what you may face in interviews around the corner, there’s nothing particularly mystical about interviewing for jobs. A recruiting manager simply wants to know

What have you done before

How relevant is it to what he wants you to do now

Have you done it well

What evidence is there that you have done it well

In the case of SEO vacancies, it’s relatively simple to establish answers to these questions. Either you have or you haven’t done any SEO before, and if you have, access to google on screen can put you on the spot to see if you’re any good.

Let’s assume you have selected SEO vacancies which suit your background and you do have the relevant experience, there are a number of general interview areas in which people fail, especially when your potential employer has a choice of experienced people.

Image

‘You only have once chance to make a first impression’. This applies from SEO vacancies to catering to sales. Whatever the image is they are looking for, if they don’t see it when you walk through the door, you have a problem. As you don’t know who is interviewing you, there is a general rule which says ‘dress neutral’. Shirt and tie a must, suit if you have one, but certainly business dress not casual. Leave your best Mickey Mouse tie in the drawer, you may be attached to it, but I doubt it will present the right image to get you the job. Keep it smart but bland.

Plan for the worst. It may be a wet day and blowing a gale, take a comb, arrive early and find a mirror, straighten yourself up and sort your hair out if you’ve arrived looking like a drowned rat.

Get there on time!

If you can’t manage to turn up on time for your interview, what can they expect if you get the job?

Evidence of success

If you are to be successful on your pursuit of SEO vacancies, you’ll need to show evidence that you are good at the job. Document your success stories. They may not have a PC hooked up to the net in the interview room. And you r memory might not be so great under pressure. Make it easy for yourself, type out some success stories, maybe some screen shots of top google positions, people remember what they see, more than what they hear!

Show your well prepared

Managers always like to think you’re really well prepared, it shows your enthusiasm for their role and is also a good omen for your work ethic. Research the company well on the internet, try and get to speak to an employee, this will give you a good insight into the role, the company, and even the style of the manager.

Prepare some questions

When choosing between SEO vacancies, it’s good practise to have a ‘shopping list’ of what is important for you. From this, you should construct a list of questions you would like to answer during your interview. There’s nothing worse than a candidate who, when asked, ‘have you got any questions’, replies, ‘no, I think you’ve answered them all’. This appears disinterested.

Type out sensible and sophisticated questions. What training and development will be available. What career structures are their in the company, and so on.

With a little extra thought you can make a big difference to your chances when going for SEO vacancies, especially if your competitors haven’t read this article!
